The winter retreat is a unique opportunity to practice yoga on a daily basis in a magical setting.

A vacation centered on well being and relaxation, a moment of deep and lasting relaxation during the winter season.

The formula is simple and the atmosphere is friendly, the setting is idylic, the change of scenery is garanteed.

The practice of Yoga proposed is not super intensive, it is nevertheless daily,  workshops and meditation sessions add extra opportunities for diverse practices. The yoga retreat allows you to improve and progress with your practice.

Free time is scheduled daily and is welcome. These are moments to rest, get a massage, to enjoy the beach and the ocean.

Varkala Beach is a protected and unique site in India. The cliff with its ocher colors, the natural springs, the vegetation and the fauna make it a real jewel.

The winter retreats in India are exclusively male, the practice is not naked.

Varkala is a tourist place, there are many possibilities for accommodation. The course takes place on the south cliff of Varkala, its more quiet than the northern cliff and has a local village atmosphere. The beach is also more beautiful and less crowded there, the sea is cleaner. The south cliff has less accommodation and restaurant options.  It is here, on the southern cliff that I stay in a rented house.

I propose two categories of accommodation, a 'guest house' category which is simple, rustic and very affordable, and a ‘hotel' category where the rooms will be more spacious, the bedding more comfortable. The price will be much higher, but will remain reasonable.

GUEST HOUSE: Trip advisor page

This season KR House is the guest house where classes will be held,  rooms are available here. This is a simple and very affordable guest house. It is located on the cliff edge and offers breathtaking views of the beach and the ocean. There is direct access to the beach from the garden of the property. The rooms are not huge, they are simple and rustic. The price is around 15 euros per night. Air conditioning is available in two of the rooms at a surcharge.

The hotel category accommodation that I proposed was the Varkala Eco Resort, a superior hotel that offers large rooms with ocean views and a pool.

This property is currently changing management, I do not have the details of the services that will be available for this season. I wish to be on the spot to consider any reservation.

The rate I got before this change was 75 euros per night in single occupancy and 85 euros per night in double occupancy. For those who want accommodation in this category, I will do the necessary once there, from mid-November.

For accommodation, regardless of the category, the payment will be done directly on site, I will only manage the reservation. For the guesthouse only the payment in cash is possible, for the hotel category the payment by card is possible (a commission is often added for the payment by foreign card).

You can of course make your own accommodation selection and booking.

Meals are the responsibility of each participant. There is a wide choice of restaurants. The price is very reasonable in tourist restaurants, and very very cheap if you choose local restaurants.

Massages by local therapists can be arranged. It costs 12/15 euros for a massage of one hour.

Local excursions can be organized

Trivandrum airport is 40km south of Varkala, the taxi takes 75 to 90 minutes, the fare is around 25 euros. I take care of organizing things.

Avoid changing money at the airport or before leaving. Local currency exchange offices offer much better rates. It is possible to pay for some things with a credit card, but a commission will be added by the merchant for foreign cards.

On arrival, there is no need to have cash, because the taxi will take you to an ATM or I will advance the cost of the taxi and a little cash until you have changed your currency.

Travel and cancelation insurance should be taken individually
